Refined Taste? Wise beyond my years??
I just went into Google Ads Preferences to investigate how much I can tweak the ads I see while trolling around the Internets. The answer? A bit. But MORE IMPORTANTLY, I discovered that Google has inferred that I’m between the ages of 35-44 based on the websites I visit.
I am, in fact, quite comfortably within the 25-34 bracket. So what does this say about me and my life choices??

What I ♥ about UX design: #1 - I make wish lists
UX designers are really lucky. Designs are essentially end-users’ product/app/interface wish lists, whether they know it or not.
“If I was a frequent user, it’d be awesome if I could do x from y.”
“Based on what we know about these customers, I think they’d really like to be able to x their ys…”
So, I effectively get to write wish lists all...

Musings for the Introspective Designer →
Not yet a fan of the new Delicious design and interaction model, but I just created a “stack” through a way-too-clunky interface that’s dedicated to introspective designers (a.k.a. all designers).
What must it be like to work at MySpace?
Is it hard to care about a product that’s shrinking so rapidly in popularity?
Does the environment kill UX designers’ and product owners’ drive?
Do meetings end in “whatever, that’s fine, I don’t even know why we’re still working on this site?”
Just curious.

Ads should help to build trust in a company...
Would you trust this company with your investments?? Because I wouldn’t. This banner ad appeared on Wikinvest.com (great tool) when I was checking up on my portfolio. The fact SPDR is using animated gifs created in MS Paint makes me seriously question their integrity, values, and fiscal responsibility.

A nice read about Scott Faranello’s design process and shared best practices. In his own words:
What follows is a roadmap for a project in which I utilized much of my user experience background. Within this roadmap as well are real-world examples of my thought processes around design decisions that led to a successful outcome of this large-scale project.

Don’t let a for-profit company monopolize knowledge. Create a public — and free — online collection of our books.
Good opinion piece, and something I’ve thought about from time to time. I do love Google, but in no way is a monopoly ever a positive thing. A monopoly of information, something society has yet to experience but is becoming more and more possible with advancing technology,...

Highly recommended read. Luckily, I haven’t had the challenge of having to “sell” UX in a traditional, by-the-numbers way. But you can bet that if I ever do, I’ll approach it as a UX problem just like Misha Vaughan did.

Very timely article. Was just playing around with the idea of building a library with a coworker for a particularly pattern-heavy project workstream. Still undecided if the end result is truly worth the effort both upfront and from a maintenance standpoint in this case.
